Chris Parker is an accomplished theatre director, actor and photographer. He has performed lead roles in musicals such as Sky in Mamma Mia (Louise Withers), Johnny Slocum in Summer Rain (Sydney Theatre Company), Will Parker in Oklahoma (The Production Company), Alec in Sideshow Alley (Jim McPherson), Bobby Childs in Crazy For You (The Production Company) and Franklin Shepard in Merrily We Roll Along (Melbourne Recital Centre). The Sydney Theatre Awards nominated Chris Best Newcomer back in 2005. He toured Australia extensively with Nick Enright’s play Daylight Saving, and again with David Williamson’s play The Club.
Chris recently directed the 25th Anniversary Concert of Jekyll and Hyde starring Anthony Warlow and Jemma Rix, and the critically acclaimed production of Oklahoma! for The Production Company’s 20th anniversary year at the State Theatre at Arts Centre Melbourne. His directing work includes Thoroughly Modern Millie at Arts Centre Melbourne, Les Misérables and The Irish Boy, which premiered at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Chris has worked on the development of many new musicals including Georgy Girl - The Seekers Musical, Moonshadow – a musical fantasy by Yusuf, The Gathering and the Helpmann award-winning Sideshow Alley. Chris was the associate director for the Australian touring productions of A German Life starring Robyn Nevin (Adelaide Festival/GFO), The Graduate starring Jerry Hall (Kay and McLean Productions), Avenue Q (Arts Asia Pacific), The Bodyguard (Gordon Frost Organisation) and Geoffrey Robertson’s Dreaming Too Loud. Other directing credits include Cry Baby, The Matchmaker, Blood Brothers, Sondheim on Sondheim, The Last Five Years and an award-winning concert of Matthew Robinson’s new musical Atlantis.
Chris is a graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
